Distinguished Lecturer/Artist Series
Continuing the C.S. Lewis Foundation’s 25-year tradition of academic seminars, institutes, and retreats, the Study Center in Northfield will host distinguished speakers and artists throughout the year to stimulate conversation and reflection upon the good, the true, and the beautiful.
Great Books Seminars
The Study Center will offer Great Books seminars on many of the most influential works of world literature. Participants will read, discuss, and learn from history’s greatest authors, including (but not limited to): Plato, Aristotle, Augustine, Dante, Machiavelli, Aquinas, Calvin, Luther, Shakespeare, Descartes, Milton, Rousseau, Adam Smith, Marx, Goethe, Austen, Tocqueville, Kierkegaard, Dostoevsky, Nietzsche, Freud, T.S. Eliot, Martin Luther King, & C.S. Lewis.
The community will be invited to participate in a variety of workshops and presentations led by active poets, writers, artists, musicians, actors, directors, and film makers.
Personal Retreats and Sabbaticals
Christian scholars, artists, leaders, pastors, and laity the world over may apply to be Scholars in Residence, staying in the guest rooms of the Study Center for short personal retreats or longer sabbaticals, giving them access to the research and arts riches of the Five Colleges of Amherst and the surrounding region.
